Hi Everyone,

I made it home last night safe and sound! I'm running around doing errands today and hopefully soon I'll have a chance to write a longer blog about my summer and put up new pictures. Sorry for the delay in writing more of an update but things have just been nuts! Thanks everyone for everything this summer. It was an unforgettable experience!

the summer is coming to a close...

Hello All,

The summer is coming to a close, that reality hit me last night as I was packing. I realized it was my last "night" of the summer since I stay in Paris tonight and then travel home, and when I get home life starts again since I start classes in 6 days. Its so sureal to me that I actually got to experience everything I did this summer and really did three months just pass?? It is real, I know that but the reality hasn't fully set in. It was really amazing, what I got to experience and I'm so thankful for every moment. I leave Athens in 7 hours and then I sleep in Paris tonight and then I arrive home after stopping in Atlanta, at about 10pm on a Delta/Air France flight (if anyone wants to come see me :)). Alright, thats it, I'll write more about my summer experience as soon as I get a chance. Thanks!

Sunburn

Hello,

Today I went to the Greek Island of Agristi, it was beautiful. Not exactally what I expected of a greek island but it was beautiful, the water was turquoise and blue and it was perfectly clear and sunny. Although with sun like that comes SUNBURN. You know when you put on sunscreen but always miss a spot...yeah...now I'm in pain. Lovely, Greece has literaly left its mark on me. I'll try and get some pictures up but my battery isn't going to last. I'll be home in 3 days!!! See you soon...if you live in MN

Greece

I've made it to Greece! The train journey was much shorter and better, I had a bed this time! Last night I went to Hard Rock Cafe and then took in a movie at an outdoor rooftop theatre, it was unforgetable, I could see the Acropolis and wow, I'm in Greece! Today I'm off to see the sights...I just found out there is Wireless Internet here so I'll try and get on later and write more. Thanks everyone!

off to greece

Hello All,

I've spent the last 4 days in Bulgaria and the last two visiting monestaries and enjoying the mountains. It's been great. Tonight at 10:10pm in about 5 hours my train departs for Greece. It will take anywhere from 13 hours to 17 hours to get there depending on which train I end up on to Athens. I'm better prepared I feel for this journey because its shorter and I'm in a sleeper car tonight. I also consolidated my things well so I feel like I have less. I think thats about all I have to share. I'll give you more details on my travels as I have time. I believe I will have interent access at my hotel in greece but who really knows till I arrive. I learned you cannot trust the lonely planet book...fun times

Bulgaria

Hello Everyone,

I'm writing from an internet cafe in Sofia, Bulgaria. When I got to Bucharest, Romania yesterday morning I decided I was to tired to go all the way to the black sea so I decided to come to Sofia, on my way to Athens. I'll be here till 10pm on Wednesday night and then I'll take the overnight train to Thessaloniki and onto Athens by 11am on Thursday. Then I'm in Athens for 4 nights and I fly to Paris for one night and then HOME! I'm honestly really ready to be home, but I know this trip can be an amazing chance to process and debrief everything that has happened this summer if I let it be that. It'll be good. And amazingly, I met this group of American's in a souviner shop today and they agreed to let me go to Rila Monestry with them on Wednesday in their bus! I'm excited because I really wanted to see it but its hard to get there by public transit. So I think thats about all. I'm off to eat at KFC and then to watch a movie. Thanks again everyone for everything this summer!

endings

I cannot believe it but the summer is coming to an end. The goodbyes started and are so sureal because I still have 2 weeks till I get home to America. My mind is thinking ahead to my time in Bulgaria and Greece and I say the goodbyes but it doesn't seem like it can be true. Maybe when I go down and open my suitcase it will be real....maybe when I say goodbye to my babies it will be real...maybe not till after my time on holiday. In any case, the long summer is ending. In three weeks, well a little less, classes begin, that seems so weird. To be back in school and in Minnesota, that is going to be culture shock. Wow. Its going to be interesting...but first I have to end well here in Romania.

a final and long overdue baby update

the bridge fell down...a perspective from afar

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the long delay in getting any more news to you. After I wrote my last entry I found out the news about the 35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis, a bridge I drive on ALL the time. Sadly, that has taken much of my focus and internet time over the last week. Its so weird to be here in Romania with such a big event, albeit negative, happening at home. I've just been in shock all week, as many have said, it could've been me. It could have been the about 200-300 people I know well in the Twin Cities but thankfully it wasn't. Its just honestly really strange to wake up and have an e-mail saying the "bridge down" and then turn on CNN in my hotel room in Slovakia and watch the coverage, the british newscaster was speculating what happened...how weird. Then I had to drive back to Romania, everytime I went over a bridge I got the chills and that's happened all week. Today I walked to another part of the town where the baby hospital is and I had to cross over a big bridge that goes over the river and there were HOLES in the cement and I could see the water, yet the 35W bridge seemed so solid. It just makes me think...more update blogs to come....

amazing day!

Hi Folks,

It was an AMAZING day! I found the orphanage my cousin was adopted from and I got to go inside and MEET all the kids! It was amazing! Plus the mountains were amazing and wow, yeah good stuff. Lots of stories to tell but to tired right now. I'll get everyone updated just as soon as I can. Pictures are posted though :). Also some new baby pics from Monday are on there. My baby Joe is back! I was so shocked to see him after just 10 days! Anyway, more later! Tomorrow holds another 10-11 hours of driving!
